Aneesa Dawoojee - Bio

Aneesa is a Portrait and social documentary photographer from South London. Her images aim to break stereotypes, celebrate the essence of community and initiate open dialog and mediation through portraiture. Influenced heavily by the artwork of the renaissance period, the light and shadows in both colour and black and white are the starting points of each image made. New work incorporates photography and oils with social-historical research and references.

Acolaids include: ‘International Solo Exhibition Award’ - RPS Gallery, ‘Power of Photography Award 2023’ - AP Magazine. ‘Portrait of Humanity’ Vol. 4 & 5, Forbes Woman Africa.

Associate Lecturer at Northampton University, Photographic Judge, and Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.

Aneesa's heart very much belongs to the community she grew up in with hopes to encourage and support young people of all backgrounds to follow their creative paths.

Jesse Jackson

The Journey to celebrate unity, and translating that into a universal message of acceptance was reinforced with an opportunity to photograph Civil Rights Activist Jesse Jackson on his 2021 tour of London that focused on Schools and Youth Charities who endeavour to close economic gaps in the UK.

“This day meant something, it ties into that message of ‘hope’, and to stand in a school hall full of children repeating the words “I am somebody” was beautiful.
